08-28-2012 ACME-MONACO RECEIVES PRESTIGIOUS AWARD It's no surprise to people affiliated with industry in New Britain that Acme-Monaco Corporation, located at 75 Winchell Drive have been a top flight manufacturing firm in the city for over fifty years. 08-23-2012 THE FROSTY MUG OPENS ITS DOORS Recently, The Frosty Mug located at 269 Beaver Street officially had their ribbon cutting with Mayor Tim O'Brien. In his remarks, the Mayor wished restaurant owner Bob Layman much success and thanked him for having faith in the City of New Britain. NEW BRITAIN OWNS IT After years of reading and hearing the constant reminders about New Britain's biggest and worst eye sore, the City of New Britain is now in possession of owning the "Berkowitz Building" located at 608 Main Street adjacent to Broad Street a.k.a. "Little Poland", a thriving street that offers a multitude of polish cuisine. The Berkowitz Building which offers 24,552 square feet and built in 1915 was heavily fined with building code violations under Mayor Tim O'Brien's blight ordinance. The owner of the building decided it was in his best interest to sell the building the the city. Sales price was $22,000. 05-01-2012 DECD SMALL BUSINESS EXPRESS PROGRAM ASSISTING BUSINESS The State of Connecticut Department of Economic and Community Development's "Small Business Express Program (EXP)" has proven to be extremely beneficial to small businesses wishing to take advantage of the low interest program. 12-19-2011 SCHALLER AUTO BODY OPENS NEW BODY SHOP On December 19th, Schaller Auto Body cut the official ribbon to open their doors to a state of the art auto body shop. The environmental safe auto body shop will be doing damaged car repair in addition to state of the art re-painting of vehicles. The shop features tiled floors, automated lifts, air conditioning, state of the art spray booths and environmentally controlled features for dust and humidity. 12-05-2011 HSB AIRCRAFT COMPONENTS MANUFACTURING MOVES TO NEW BRITAIN HSB Aicraft Components LLC has recently moved to new Britain from East Berlin. Company President Henry Wasik sais "after an exhaustive search for the right location, we decided New Britain was our best fit. Using their personal finances and a loan from the Spanish American Merchants Association (SAMA), the bakery's doors opened. As they cliche says," the rest is history." 08-26-2011 CCSU/Goundbreaking for New Academic Building On August 24th, 2011 with Govenor Daniel P. Malloy in attendance, CCSU President Jack Miller discussed CCSU's new academic building that will be constructed on the CCSU campus. The building project will provide classrooms and offices for Sociology, Anthropology, Political Science and History departments. The building will be 75, 054 square feet and will cost $38,092,000 which will be funded through the CSUS 2020 capital improvement program. Commissioner of Administrative Services, Donald J. According to records, former owner WPNB Associates who purchased the property for 9.6 million dollars in 2007 have sold the property to Paramount Plaza @ New Britain LLC. Documents indicate the new owners are from Lakewood, New Jersey. Conveyance indicates the property was sold for 15.2 million dollars. New Brite Plaza has recently undergone exterior resurfacing in addition to leasing three anchor tenants that include Marshall's, Ocean State and Sav-a Lot Grocery store.

Owner Jo-Ann LoRusso, owner of the business along with her family officially cut the ribbon for the neighborhood laundromat. 05-12-2011 NUTMEG STATE CREDIT UNION OPENS NEW OFFICE Nutmeg State Federal Credit Union formerly located at 55 Curtis Street in New Britain has moved its local office to 995 West Main Street. To celebrate it's new "grand opening" Mayor Tim Stewart officially cut the ribbon with invited guests in attendance. 04-26-2011 MARSHALL'S PARTNER'S WITH NB'S FRIENDSHIP CENTER On a day that was already bright and sunny, Frienship Center Director Ellen Simpson must have felt the sunshine was even brighter as New Britain's Marshall's store manger Ronnell Hargrave presented Ellen with a five thousand dollar check to assist the organization where it felt it was most needed. 04-07-2011 SCHALLER AUTO ANNOUNCES MAJOR EXPANSION RENOVATION Art Schaller Jr. has recently announced that he and his business partner Mark Smith have recently purchased the former Subaru Sales facility located on 55 Veteran's Drive, that will be totally renovated and retrofitted to become one of the most efficient and updated repair centers in Connecticut. According to Schaller, "their need for expansion was long overdue due". The current shop is located in Berlin and will along with approximately 30 jobs will be moved to New Britain upon completion of the renovation. Total costs for renovation and purchase on new machinery will be over three million dollars. The building is approximately 25,000 square feet and has 2.21 acres of land. "The City of New Britain" was very helpful to us in our ambitious undertaking" said Schaller.

03-01-2011 ACMAT BUILDING SOLD One of New Britain's most recognizable "Downtown" buildings recently closed on February 23rd. The investment firm known as H.J. Development L.L.C .plans to aggressively market the 75,000 square foot building that currently has limited vacancy . Spokesperson for H.J. Development, Ian Fishkin stated that the firm has interviewed prospective commercial brokerage companies and will be making the decision within a short period of time with regards to representation. Sales price for the property was 2.8 million dollars. The Acmat Corporation will remain in the City of New Britain at its present location according to Henry Nozko Jr.. CEO. The Class "A" building space has anchor tenants that include Bank of America, the U.S. Social Security Office and State of Connecticut Workman's Compensation Office in addition to the ACMAT Corporation.

12-03-2010 NEW PUBLIC SAFETY BUILDING BREAKS GROUND Work on New Britain's new public safety building has recently begun that will house a new police station and offer retail shops fronting Main Street. The new building's foot print will be on the corner of Chestnut and Main Street and consist of approximately 85,000 square feet on the 2.5 acre parcel formerly known as Central Park Plaza. The new complex will take 18 months to complete (weather permitting) and is being financed through "Build America Bonds" and "Recovery Zone Economic Development Bonds" through the federal government. Bond utilization will save New Britain approximately 7.5 million dollars in interest payments.

08-29-2010 STAG ARMS DONATES TO CONNECTICUT SWAT CHALLENGE Stag Arms a worldwide leader in rifle manufacturing has recently donated the largest prize to the Connecticut SWAT Challenge event held in Simsbury Connecticut. The event that is run by SWAT Cops is the 2nd largest event in the United States according to SWAT administrators. 08-05-2010 GUIDA'S SEIBERT DAIRY INC. BREAKS NEW GROUND Guida's Seibert Dairy Inc. recently broke ground for their new 22,000 square foot manufacturing warehouse facility. According to company officials, the 2.1 million dollar investment was a logistics move due to Guida's having and leasing a number of warehousing facilities in New Britain and other towns in Connecticut. The new facility will allow for easier transition and be more cost productive. The company plans plans on consolidating it's leased properties into the the new building. The Guida's Seibert Dairy Company distributes its product line in Connecticut, Massachusetts, Rhode Island and parts of New York. The family owned company has a long tradition in New Britain and is one of the largest independent dairy company's in the United States.

07-21-2010 NEW BRITAIN HIGH SCHOOL OPENS "DOWNTOWN STORE" Local educators, students, community organizations, business leaders and the Mayor of New Britain turned out in full force to open a new downtown store called "The Hurricane District Store" a name derived from New Britain Senior High School's nickname, The Golden Hurricanes". The store is located at 115 West Main Street. The store will feature NBHS T-shirts, Hoodies, Sweatshirts and a variety of items. A special feature are the custom made Adirondack chairs made by students at NBHS. Master of Ceremonies for the event was Tom Menditto representing the Consolidated School District of New Britain. Additional speakers included NBHS Principal Michael Forin, Downtown District Executive Director Gerry Amodio and Mayor Tim Stewart. The ribbon cutting ceromony also featured former NBHS alumnus Tebucky Jones. Jones who was a standout athlete at NBHS and played his collegiate career at Syracuse University before playing in the NFL with the New England Patriots and the New Orleans Saints. 06-29-2010 INTEGRO LLC MOVES INTO NEW BRITAIN INTEGRO LLC, a manufacturing company that supplies components for airport lighting systems has recently relocated from Meriden to 30 Peter Court in New Britain. According to CEO Richard Knight, the building was a great fit for our company,.It wasn't a long commute for most of our employees and gives us a more centralized and convenient location for our transportation needs. 10-26-2009 New Britain's Bond Rating Receives "A" Rating The City of New Britain recently has received a "A" rating from the Fitch Group Reporting Service. The "A" rating reflects New Britain's adequate reserve levels that provide the city with a modest amount of financial flexibility. The Fitch Group Report also stated the city's financial operations are stable and reserve levels provide a modest amount of flexibility. Fiscal 2008 ended with a $2.3 million general fund surplus and fiscal 2009 is expected to end with a $500,000 surplus. The fiscal 2010 budget declined by approximately $2.5 million, or 1.2%, as officials limited spending across all departments to mitigate a challenging revenue-raising environment. "This is truly good news for the City of New Britain" said Mayor Timothy Stewart. "It proves that the efforts we have made in recent years to control spending and to improve the City's financial situation are showing real results. The Fitch Ratings is one of three nationally recognized rating organizations designated by the U.S. SEC Commission together with Moody's and S&P.

09-14-2009 Walnut Hill Park / A New Look One of Connecticut's most picturesque parks is currently under going extensive work to correct and improve the infrastructure of the entire park. According to City of New Britain Park & Recreation officials, the park will have new ball fields, exercise facilities, landscaping and a cricket field. 06-05-2009 Demolition of Former Central Park Plaza Begins Under the Direction of Mayor Timothy Stewart, demolition of the former Central Park Plaza-121 Main Street, has begun in order to make room for a new Police Station in addition to ground floor retail space and residential housing. The former blighted property was purchased by the City of New Britain in 2009. 06-04-2009 Former Bank Under Restoration Restoration of the former New Britain National Bank Building, 55 West Main Street in the heart of Downtown is making substantial progress. 06-02-2009 Town Country Celebrates 60 Year Anniversary Congratulations to Town and Country Transportation located at 191 Arch Street. The family owned and operated business has been serving the City of New Britain for 60 years. Peter Lemnotis, along with family members have kept the company operating that was started in 1949. Originally a cab company, it now operates primarily as a transportation school bus company for special needs students for the Consolidated School District of New Britain. Congratulations.
